Measured Irrigation with Flow Meter

Water a garden bed by the litre using a flow sensor and solenoid valve.

Measured Irrigation with Flow Meter — main component

Overview

The YF-N20 sends a pulse per volume of water. The board counts pulses and closes the valve once the target volume has passed, so beds get even water without waste.

Build Steps

  1. Plumb the sensor

Fit the flow sensor and valve in series on the supply line with the arrow pointing toward the bed.

  2. Count the pulses

Read the hall-effect pulses on an interrupt pin and multiply by the sensor's calibration factor for litres.

  3. Control the valve

Open the relay, count to the target volume, then close; confirm no leaks at the fittings.

  4. Tune per bed

Run a measured bucket test to calibrate, then set litres per bed for each watering cycle.
